It has been a long way to finally understand who I was… and yet, somehow, I already knew
the answer.
I imagined to see myself from the outside and I immediately noticed a curious little girl with
a diverse personality. Wanting to tell about me, I cannot hep but thinking of the title “Me
while painting”.
“Here is what happened: with her chubby face that not everybody liked and that many
mean and cruel schoolmates made fun of, she started, since her early age, to colour her
lips red and her eyes blue and she did it so insistently that her fair complexion absorbed
the shades. The organs that had a permanent damage were her brains, heart and,
inevitably, her soul. The red colour flooded into her every corner blushing, sometimes, her
cheeks from the inside. But it was the blue that damaged her the most. Her eyes started to
see only the clearest skies and dancing clouds. Her brains, full of pigments and colours,
melted down making her, thus, very vulnerable and occasionally unstable. Her arms,
finally, started to move elastically as if they were lead by a flowing river. Her hear, doorway
to her soul, began to beat again and again and it always will for the love of colours”.
From Elisa to Elisa, I can define myself as a painter and a designer and I personally love
to keep the two spheres separated because they are both distant and close to each other
at the same time. I look at the world around me through the eyes of a painter but with the
burning desire of touching and kneading it with my hands to make it colourful. At the same
time I also love picking up new ornaments, decorating furniture, panels, fabrics and old
doors and walls. In the variety of ornaments I find the push to express the painter in me.
The research of colours creates the deepest connection between my spirit and the object
before my eyes. It is the object itself that calls me and asks for a specific shade. This
process is, essentially, a sensitive exchange wherein the object chooses me as a vehicle
of colours.
I feel so grateful towards my job. The role of a designer is to step into people's dreams and
help them touch the natural vibrations of their desires so that their house can become the
perfect mirror of their intimate feelings. Sometimes the designer and the customer can
make unexpected decisions when they work together but when the house, throughout a
specific work, matches people's expectations and wishes, satisfaction is overwhelming. A
good and well balanced decorative work is essentially based on instinct and thoughtful
evaluation. Instinct is the immediate perception that comes directly from a new location. It
hits your mind powerfully especially pointing at specific details such as a particular sound,
smell or vision. It is something that you cannot know beforehand and that you have to
experience only in that very moment. A thoughtful and careful evaluation is what comes
immediately after and it is based on the communication between the designer and the
customer. Its ultimate function is to give a complete and harmonious picture of the initial
impact.
I graduated in art history when I was 28 and the following day I got the unique opportunity
to paint a fine corner cupboard. For the first time in my life I entered a real studio and I
suddenly felt that I belonged there in spite of my cultural and educational background. I
have worked for many years in private studios lending other artists my hands and my
talent. In 2013, with RDP Studio Milano, I left with a work team to Baku, Azerbaijan, in
order to do the gilding of the town theatre. It was a thrilling experience that still moves me
when I think of all the people I met and the things I did when I was there. I finally met an
experienced artisan specialised in furniture and interior design. We have worked together
for six months and he taught me such important professional, emotional and human
lessons that I will always be thankful for it.
